ReCycle for Sight

Eyeglass recycling is one of the Lions’ most popular activities. Although the program was officially adopted by the association in 1994, Lions have been collecting glasses for more than 80 years. Refractive errors can be easily corrected with eyeglasses, yet millions in developing nations lack access to basic eye care services. Lions have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and continue to lend their support to the Lions Recycle for Sight Program. If you have any glasses that can be donated, please contact our Secretary.

Since inception, our club has donated over 1,000 eyeglasses to Lions District 14A.

Food Bank

Our club provides on-going contributions to support the St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church and the Poquessing Middle School food banks. Recently we donated $850 each to these worthy institutions. Our members also donate canned goods and dry foodstuffs which support Lions’ District 14 A’s hunger relief project, which has a bank goal of 50,000 pounds. To date, over 33,000 pounds have been collected. “Together we can do this.

Tornado Relief

On December 10, 2021 a violent, long-tracked tornado moved across Western Kentucky, producing severe to catastrophic damage in numerous towns, including Mayfield, Benton, Dawson Springs, and Bremen in what may be one of the most devastating tornadoes ever happened just two weeks before Christmas. A Disaster Relief Team had been established to provide assistance to Kentucky. A tractor trailer arrived in Morgantown, PA where Lions helped load supplies collected by PA Multiple District 14 lions, including from Feasterville-Trevose Lions. Additionally, our club donated $500 to support in this effort.

Assistance to Fire Victims

Our club donated $500 in gift cards to a family in Feasterville-Trevose whose rental house recently incurred significant fire damage. We collected cards from Aldi, Boscov’s, Dog & Bull, Giant, Target, and Walmart. Their generosity is greatly appreciated.

Earthquake Disaster Relief

At a recent fund raiser at Shagun Palace (Bensalem) we netted $4,000 that represented our club’s donation to earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria. This donation was coordinated with the Lions Clubs International Foundation initiative.

Covid Relief

Our President, Sahil Saif, was instrumental in raising funds to purchase oxygen concentrators for shipment to India (critical medical equipment for people suffering with COVID). He solicited a total of $6,200. Past District Governor, Nalit Patel of Livingston Lions Club, NJ agreed to help deliver the equipment to a Lions Club in India (Patna Anthem).

Additionally, during COVID our club donated four cases of hand sanitizer and two cases of bleach to the PA Beacon Lodge summer camp, a non-profit organization serving children and adults with special needs.

Relief donations to displaced victims in Ukraine

This past year, our Club donated $1,000 to support Lions Clubs International Foundation’s efforts to raise funds to help families in Ukraine flee violence and support humanitarian assistance and surrounding regions where Ukrainian refuges have fled.

Challenged youth support

In 2021, the Feasterville-Trevose Lions donated $500 to student in Langhorne’ who plans to earn her master’s degree in mental health from John Hopkins University in the fall. She was diagnosed with autism at the age of 6. Despite the many people who doubted her abilities (teachers and guidance counselors), she managed to earn a degree from Penn State University almost 20 years later. She hopes to use her advanced education to become an advocate for autism research.

Diabetes Awareness

“Lions, with the support of LCI Foundation (LCIF), are working to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the lives of those living with diabetes. We, at Feasterville-Trevose Lions, have designated a Diabetes Chairperson to champion diabetes awareness, education and prevention in our community. Every year we schedule a mile-long walk in the local community, otherwise known as “Strides for Diabetes Awareness.”

Ongoing financial assistance

Our club routinely provides financial assistance to related service organizations that include Beacon Lodge, Bucks County Association for the Blind, PA Lions for Dog Guides, Sight Conservation and Eye Research Foundation, District 14 A Charitable Foundation.

TREX Recycling

Our club participates in the Trex Recyclable Program, sponsored by a national environmental-friendly organization. This is a Win-Win situation. When we donate unwanted plastic materials to Trex, not only are we helping to keep thousands of pounds of waste out of landfills, we’re also promoting the creation of beautiful and environmentally responsible outdoor products. When we earn enough points in making these donations, we opted to receive an indestructible bench, suitable to any park environment. The bench is then donated to a non-profit entity, such as a local disabled veterans organization. To date, we’ve acquired three benches. Time well-worth spent.

Boscove’s Friends Helping Friends

Every fall we participate with Boscov’s annual fundraising drive that helps support non-profit organizations, including the Feasterville-Trevose Lions. Boscov’s has donated millions of dollars to non-profits across the country.
